I replaced the ignition coil and cleaned carburetor on my Stihl 025 chainsaw. It wouldnt idle and died when you stop reving. I think it was just the adjustment screws (L). When reassembled, it seems to be at "full rev" or very high rpm. I started playing with the adjustment screws but cant get it to idle. What is the trick on the adj screw? Manual says crank the L screw down to seat, then back off one turn. Did that but the rpm is so high when I start it, it sounds crazy. Tonight I will try going all the way counter clockwise then one turn clockwise. Ran out of time last night.
Any help would be appreciated to get me on the right track. Knowing that I took it all apart, does the symptom sound like something else? The choke and throttle adjustment are intact and working. Need to cut tonight, but I fear I will spend most of my night trying to get the thing running/idling properly.

Did you mess with your I - Idle screw? Try backing it off.
Then see. Then try going with the L screw from lightly seated to 1.5 turns out and see.
Just curoius do you have the carb with the H side too?
New carbs with fully adjustable H and L sides are only $30-$35 from stihl.

Mine is only the L screw. I did mess with it trying to get it to idle properly. But once carb removed it seems like it's wide open...I cant imagine that the little turn of the screw I did made it run full rpm but maybe they are sensitive. Newbie question...but which way is lightly seated? Full clockwise, or full counterclockwise?
I havent bought a new carb yet - main concern is that I have it put back together correctly to run....Didnt want to spend 1/3 of new $ on repairs so tried it myself....almost successful. I'm not much of a mechanic but youtube got me through a teardown and repair.

Clockwise till lightly seated. Then turn counter clockwise out to 1.5 see what you get.
If not carb and put together wrong if you took a[art to rekit etc. Could be a air leak.

Someone else posted this so no need to re-describe = ((((((( The impulse line is hard to get to and hard to see. But you can get to it from the left side (bar pointing forward), under the recoil cover, just above the coil and behind the flywheel. The impulse line goes from a metal nipple at the back of the engine to a plastic nipple in the orange handle that leads to a hole in the carb just to the side of the intake port.
So, take off the recoil cover, find the line, and use needle nose pliers to dig around in there to pull that thing out and shove another one in there. It can be done. Take your time. or take the entire orange handle off (another PITA on these saws, requires removing carb and other stuff) and pull the intake boot off and there it will be, exposed I have done it both ways, and recommend the first. ))))))
