Title: Mini-mac 30 reassembly issue
Post by: apprenticegnome on May 15, 2020, 07:10:58 am
I was given a McCulloch Mini-mac 30 that had been partly disassembled about 20 years ago. I have mostly put it back together and have kitted the carby (problem why it was disassembled in the first place apparently). I have a wire that I can't recall where it screwed to. I also have 2 other parts that were in the box that may or may not belong to the saw. Is there anyone on this site that might be familiar with these saws and know where this wire was screwed or bolted to and if the 2 other parts are not related to the build (if they are, where do they belong?). It came from my old work (a motor mechanics) so anything could have been picked up and added to the box of parts before I aquired it. I have watched a disassembly video on you tube for 1 but the video is too grainy to make some parts out, the service manual and owners manual don't show the 3 parts in question either.

Sorry I cannot be any help I have always avoided working on those.    My hat is off to you for taking on the challenge.    But do let us know how you get it done and how it runs.      Parts list and a service manual would be your best bet.

Thanks for the parts list, I already had it though and for the life of me cannot find the 3 items in it. The only part that might come close is the small tab in the picture with my finger could be 1/2 of a revised 2 piece version that goes in the base of the throttle handle, part No 43 on page 7 but I'm only guessing there. I have the service and owners manuals as well but they don't cover these 3 parts either. I did reassemble minus the chain bar about 18 months ago and it did start but would not keep running. I disassembled a bit further this time to remove the engine from the case so I could do the carby. The diaphragm and pump gaskets were shot and rubbish inside so a good clean and new gaskets will more than likely let it live again. I'm mostly concerned as to where to screw or bolt that little module on the wire so it doesn't get in the road of anything. If I was positive I had the correct bolts in their respective holes and wasn't missing any pieces I would have made a higher resolution video of disassembly as it wasn't that hard to take down after doing it once.

They probably do not belong to the saw and I would just finish putting it together and running it to make sure all works like it should.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCeA5y_cYLg check this video if you look where your right thumb would be when holding the saw you can see a chrome version of your bent wire I believe its the manual oiler

Looks to me like the bent wire is to actuate the manual oiler, and the electronic part seems to be a ignition trigger to eliminate the points and condenser.
