Title: 455 starts then dies
Post by: Beeto on March 31, 2022, 12:15:16 pm
455 starts right up then dies after a few seconds.  I have installed: new carburetor, new fuel filter, new air filter, new fuel lines, new primer bulb, and cleaned: the impulse line as best I could, the spark arrestor, the fuel breather.  I removed the intake manifold and didn't see any cracks or splits, and checked compression, swapped out a coil that I know was working on another 455.

It will not stay running long enough to make any carb adjustments.

I have owned the saw for 20 years but I'm not a heavy user- used it very sparingly around the farm.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

New carb aftermarket?   They can be hit or miss.
Carb adjustment setting from get go close to be able to start and run (not all carbs and saws the same)?
Check for impulse blockage.
Has impulse line been replaced?
Crank seals etc checked?
Vac and pressure test?
Has piston ring in a blind corner been pinned. Seen that before too.

I hate these style of strato saws with the dang tubes. Just air leaks waiting to happen. Poor design. IMO.
