Title: Poulan 325
Post by: Cut4fun . on March 10, 2012, 09:18:10 pm
I sure thought we had a thread here on the Poulan 325. Anyways I cant find it at the moment. So here is a thread till I can combine them.

Mark would you post those pics of your pristine 325 too. Thanks.

My ole work horse poulan 325 type 1 closed port. Does have a new oem hand guard and clutch cover.

This was the first one I had ever seen on ebay years back. So I bought it as a non running parts saw with a must have bidding attitude.

The only thing I have found that you still cant buy is the closed port cylinders. The newer cylinders are open port.

The pistons are windowed like a 026 and single ring 46mm.

I watched a super nice one on ebay a few years back bring way over $400.

I run 3/8 full comp on 20" on the 53cc with no problems.

It has a lot  more low end torque in the cut then a 5000 plus IMO. Sort of like a 5000+ on steroids.

I had it at the poulan GTG and I know some of the guys ran it with the 20". Cant remember who though.

The saw does not receive spark, has good compression, dull chain. Complete. In good shape. Need pull start knob

I just sold the running poulan 325 in this thread zdog and know of another running 325 that just sold like mine in same condition.
They are not the gold mine you are thinking you will get for it on ebay JMO.
They only bring good money IF they are like NOS condition like MM  bought. One in normal working condition brings normal used saw prices

Can anyone help me with a 325 piston? I picked up one that is lightly scored. Lightly, but enough that it is not useable.

Glad your going to finish this 325 up  (make it pretty  ;D ). Once I got it running I shelved it for gtg's etc only.

Mark has a good pic of the recoil decal on his like new one to use to make a decal for that new recoil.  ;)

If you notice the muffler part number is different then a  5000 and  the outlet hole is bigger. 3/8 rim is on it too.

Enjoy

Those sure are neat looking saws.

That poor muffler looks like it could use a good sandblasting and some paint.

Well it looks like this PP 325 is going to be mine  8).

The guy liked the 2011 NE 346xp with 16" and 3/8 I sent home with him to demo  and ask today to just trade the 325 in on it. He then is going to drop the 346 off later some time for me to muffler mod it for him with a husky 281 deflector.

After it was all said and done I thought I was going to have to give him boot for the 325 on my 346.  :o  Dang I know he bought it new and all, but even though it sat most of it's life as a back up it still isnt worth new price.  I just hope he can find all the manuals and the receipt for it.   8) :P

Well it's official, I own another PP325 now.

2nd one I have had and this one is a 1 owner huh make that 2 owner now  ;D .   Ended up with way to much in it, but I am one  not to let saws like these slip away.

Just taking a quick look I cant see nothing wrong with that rear handle AV. Guess I will know more when I cut that tie strap off and look closer.

Now comes time for the decision making.   (http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g289/doemaster789/smiles/impatient2.gif)

Well I bought my 325 brand new from Sears.  I stumbled across it as an open box closeout and paid 159.00 for it.  The only reason I bought it was because it looked like a great deal and I saw it was made in Sweden.  It looked different, more agressive than my 16 inch Homelite.  It had a 20 inch bar and sorta resembled my buddies 20 inch Husky.  I was a little disappointed when I read the owners manual and read " For Occasional Use Only".  Hmmm I thought I bought a junk saw!!  Well I guess that was 30 years ago and it has been a great saw but I do only use it about once a year so I guess that is occasional!

Which BadBoy? 60cc or 54cc. I had 3 of the 3750 ones and 1 of the 3450 ones.   So far only seen 1 3450 bad boy. Heard of 1 other though.

The PP325 and Badboy saws are also like by the poulan collector guys.  I like them as well, just for cutting with though.

Got a big poulan wild thing that will run with that 460 too.  ;)

The first saw was built in Sweden during week 15 of 1990, and packed out in Nashville on day 206 of 1990.
The second saw was build in Sweden during week 09 of 1989, and packed out in Nashville on day 125 of 1989.
EMAB saws date code for this time period: first digit = last digit of year; 2 & 3 digits = week

Thanks, that makes sense!

The main reason I asked is that the only specs I have seen for the P5500 show a weight of about 12.1 lbs (5.5 kg really).

I don't know how long those saws were made, in either color.

Btw, 1988 - 1990 indicates they all were made at the Husky factory.

That would be closer  to right weight I bet for 325.  Since the 5000 actual weight shows 11lb 8+ounce and the same info on the 5000 where I got the 325 OEM spec info is 1lb less then actual.

Wasn't it 11 lbs 8.3 oz?

That is of course still more than the specs said, but not a full pound.  ;)

Could the US weight specs have been without a chain brake at that point (mid to late 1980s)?

???  I can -  but to me it looks like your scale showed 11 lbs 8.3 oz - and that isn't 11.8 lbs (it is just over 11.5).

OK back up what saw are you talking about?

No where that I posted, did the 5000 oem spec say 11.5   ???  it showed 10.8 spec oem  ???

I see what your saying on the 11.8 now.  11lb 8 ounces   Does come out wrong taking a short cut posting it like 11.8 LOL. My bad on that part.

The 325 showed 11.5 from oem specs by the way.  I'm betting super high 11's to low 12's on that one.

Oh not my scales. I just search the internet for pics.

No, you didn't - but your real weight picture in the P5000 weight thread showed 11 lbs 8.3 oz, and that is just over 11.5 lbs.

If someone needs me to pick these up let me know.

Saving pics of one I am trying to get to pass on.

Guy sent me 2 videos of it running and limbing downed trees.

Might have lost the recoil decal from the pics from 2 different times.

Getting him to ship it has been a snag.

Would be the 3rd one if I can reel it in.  Other 2 are in collectors hands already.  They are like a 5000 44mm bore on steroids = 46mm bore.

Just saving pics of a PP325 with the later run chain brake clutch cover.

Owner says it is woods ported and out cuts his woods ported NE346xp. Is a 53cc compared to a 50cc though. But no doubt I believe him as I owned both stock. Never had a 325 46mm ported but a few of the 44mm ones ported and they are right there too.  ;)

That 325 can be bought from owner. If interested.

PP325 46mm = partner 5500, heck little brother 44mm partner 5000+ ran with the NE 346 stock and ported. The P5000 is what I raced in the 3ci class.  Jred 490 same.
The middle brother jred 590 was 45mm version and came with 2 closed port cylinders.  Pics should still be in the threads on them in years past.
