2159 bogging question
« on: August 28, 2013, 12:56:23 pm »
this is probably a really stupid question, but...
Cuitting firewood with the 2159 it's doing a great job when I'm cutting from the top of the log.  In 18" spruce I can just let it have it's head or I can dog it in pretty good, & it just eats.  No problems.
When I cut from the bottom up, even 5 or 6" logs, I can bog it pretty easy.  Any idea why?  As I recall my 670 I was playing with last year had the same habit, but I don't remember my 026 doing it...  Maybe they all do &my memory is just short...

Another question on the 2159.  When the saw is  warmed up good (cutting for several minutes), then stopping & doing handwork for a few (5?) minutes,  when I restart (doing it their way, pull out choke & then push back in to set high idle before pulling starter),  The saw starts & idles but you have to work it up to full throttle over 10 or so seconds before it will peak out.  Almost like it needs the choke on a bit or is starving for fuel.  After 10 sec or so it's fine...
Is this normal for these saws?

Nope, not yet.  Idles nice & just four stroking a bit WFO with no load so haven't messed with it & I don't have a tack.  I got a muffler to mod so I will definitely need to adjust them then.  Only cut between 2 & 3 cord of wood with it so mar...

What is your throttle response like?    If having to feather it I am thinking L. Adjust your L for snappy instant  throttle (fatten up I bet) and then use your I for idle if needed then.  I'm just trying to get you right on this part.

bogging part  ??? I'm miffed on

The 2159 has a HDA-199 accelerator pump carb?

If the accelerator pump is working this carb should never bog no matter the needle setting?

The HDA-199 requires the funny number repair kit with the extra little hole in the metering diaphragm gaskets and it has a extra plastic plate over the metering diaphragm and under the steel cover to vent the metering valve diaphragm as there is no vent hole in the steel cover? (D24-HDA)

If it is a 199 carb issue. Scott has a info video in this thread on fixing.  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/ported-saws/hda-carb-fix/

Haven't even looked at the limiters.  I assume trimming them is no problem?
