670 questions
« on: August 18, 2012, 01:28:23 am »
I have a Jonsered I inherited & have used a bit over the last couple years that I have a question or two on.
1st, as far as I can read the data plate (scratched up) it says 670.  There are no decals on the engine.  Pics look like a 670.  what are the differences between the standard 670 & the Champ?  Any one know of a source for airfilters & an airfilter cover?  It has the big replacement foam sock & no cover.
Also, I need new bar guide plates.  Are there Husky plates that will fit?  What is the displacement on these saws?  It's got a 28" bar with full comp chisel filed round & is a cutting machine!!

670 has a 2 part ignition system.  670 Champ has a 1 part ignition.  Champ is newer model.  There are crankcase changes on the flywheel side to accomodate the single coil.  The rest to the best of my knowledge is interchangable.  Both are 50mm 66.7cc (I think).  Bar plates are still available from Husky or Jonsered PN: 501-4444-01 & 501-4445-01.  670 and 670 Champ are basically a 268 Husky in red.  Air filters are no problem.  How many do you want?  I may have an AF cover will have to check.  If someone has changed the AF system to the big sock you will need other parts to convert it back to stock which I probably have.  We might be able to work out a trade.  Here is a link for PN's.   http://www.barrettsmallengine.com/partslist/jonsered625670.pdf

Thanks farmboy.  Any exterior way other than decals to tell if it's a champ?  Do you know where the serial # break is?  Maybe it's shown in the IPL.  I'll look.
You can ck if you have a cover & figure out a price.  Don't know what trading stock I'd have.  If I decide to go that way I'll try you 1st.
I noticed the top plastic on this one is orange rather than red so I figured it was off a Husky of some type.

If Farmboy has top and filter covers, then grab them because they are NLA from Jonsered. I'm finding that the number of NLA parts from this family of saws is growing. Parts that were available over the last couple of years are running out.

The Champ decals were of course gold, so if there is any small pieces of decal left on either the starter or clutch cover, it will give you a clue. Between early and late versions, there were some other differences. While the AF covers were the same, the cylnder covers were not, and they do not interchange. Due to the case differences Farmboy mentioned on the coil side, the front top cover bolt location is also different. The early top cover was also a little lower, as was the muffler. A new muffler can be used on the old saw, but it will contact the top cover and probably melt it a little bit.

The original large air filter is NLA, (but I've got about 6 in stock). By the time they were making the Champ, they were using the same filter as on the 630, even though the Champ came with the taller AF cover. That low top filter is still available.
