590 is  a closed port cylinder and there is a bridge there your not seeing.

Look at very first pic in thread you can see it. Click on 1st pic to enlarge it and look down cyl sides.

Yes, it is pretty obvious in that picture.   :)

I've heard guys refer to that 590 style jug as "modified closed port", but I don't know if there is a universally accepted term. What do you guys call it?

That configuration, where the transfers are open at the bottom is why a Jonsered 930 is stronger than a 920, or a 372 is stronger than a 272.

Closed port to me.

My race 5000 copied after a Marcel Vincent 5000 alky cylinder and even went as far as to remove the bridge to make it open and my woods ported 5000 looked a lot like the 590 cylinder when all the grinding was done by 2 different builders on the cylinder area at the transfers.  Hope that long winded sentence made since.

Couldn't tell you since 590 is longer in my possession.  ;)   Been having a fire sale of stuff I no longer want or need.

Started getting rid of 166's, 3120's, 084's and now my 5000's, 590, couple 372's and traded 1 of 3 066 so far.  Might get rid of my woods ported 066 and maybe stock MS660 next.

Only problem I get rid of 1 and usually get 3-4 more the same week.   ;D

It is right now, getting tire of walking around them  :D  ::)

They are setting on the floor between the pool table and the mowers. Cant wait till summer so I can go through them all and start putting them up.
