Jonsered 625 Chain tensioner assembly
« on: August 02, 2021, 08:10:30 pm »
In the continuing saga of sprucing up my friend's Jonsered 625:

He was missing the chain tensioner (and trying to get by with just pulling it tight and cranking on the bar nuts to hold it). I ordered a replacement. It consists of the adjuster bolt, the tension peg (that connects with the hole in the bar), and a square plastic washer/nut (?).

The link to the 625 IPL that Cut4Fun posted in another thread seems to indicate that the plastic square goes on to the bolt first, then the tension peg. However, the plastic square will not fit over the threads. It just fits snugly over the unthreaded tip of the bolt. I'm thinking that the IPL is wrong, and the tension peg threads on first, and the plastic square just presses on to the tip of the bolt.  Do I have this straight?

I just use fuel line for holding my tensioner bolts in. Better then that plastic deal and metal clip. JMO
Can see it in pic at front.

Thanks, Cut4Fun. I'm not sure I'm seeing the right thing. Is that the fuel line I see just above the white block, wedged under the metal plate just below the tensioner slot?

BTW, I did find an older IPL. This one is for the 1994 Jonsered 625

I still haven't found one covering a serial number as low as my friend's, but these have been very helpful.

So here's a shot of the chain tensioner. He wants to go with installing it as-designed. Is it intended to be assembled as shown, or should that little plastic square be forced over the threads to ride in the little notch in the shaft that is currently about midway between the tensioner peg and the head of the screw? The latter would appear to be what the IPLs are showing, but I'm not sure if I can get that plastic square over the threads without damaging it.

Its so simple to do. Just like mine with fuel line on front where your white plastic will end up.
Take the white part off you got them in wrong order for install. Take the part that goes in bar tensioner hole off.  Now put the tensioner bolt in front of case and then put white platic in the case and back on the threads of bolts started. Then put the bar tensoner bar deal back in case and started on tensioner bolt behind the white plastic piece. Now just turn the tensioner bolt till you work the white platic pice up front to the slot. 2-5 mins job at most.

 An older 625  ipl

Rays is a 1987 IPL and shows proper order like I am telling you in above post for install.

Here is a 1981 266 I done the same thing to it's tensioner.

Maybe you can see this one better. The fuel line where it goes like that plastic piece.  To front right in pic.

Maybe I'm just being an idiot, and it's starting me in the face, but I don't see a piece of fuel line in those photos. I assume it's between the tension peg and the front of the saw?

Does is just fit on the threaded shaft with a bit of friction to keep the shaft from sliding forward when the bar is off?

Yes.

Here I took a pic of the pic and tried to circle it in red for ya.

Thanks. It's making sense now. In the earlier pictures, I was just seeing threads and what I thought was some old grungy bar oil/sawdust mix.
