Chainsaw Repair

The shortage of parts for the 100 series Jonsereds is getting to the point of being frustrating.  Scott at Chainsawr.com has new and used parts for a lot of brands, specializes in Jonsered.  His operation has kept my 910E in operation by supplying good used parts.  Recently The muffler was burned out and he supplied a used unit  that kept the saw going.

The frustration is due to having a very good, strong running Jonsered  that I would like to keep using for a long time.  It continues to be my primary falling and bucking saw that I use on trees over 24 inches in diameter and it appears that it will cost at least $600 to $1000 and possibly more to replace the saw if a part, that I would consider a normal wear part, like a muffler, dies. 

I realize that planned/designed obsolescence my be involved and in the bulk of products that is definitely the reason for lack of replacement part availability.  One very interesting thing about chainsaws is the tendency to become extremely attached to your favorite saw that always starts, runs strong and in large, has a history of being bomb proof.

Preferably, the manufacturers would do more to provide parts access for good saws of age, or aftermarket suppliers would pick up the short fall.  That being said, without the above occurring, we are fortunate that we have the Chainsawr.com type of business that work hard to keep the rest of us in operation.  Keep the old saw parts coming!
