I can't say for sure, by just going by memory and not going to the bother of digging up Ipls. There is a possibility they may swap.
When I retired my 920 I switched to Stihl's 064 when it came out in 1986. When the 288 came out I should have tried it out but I was happy with the 064, I bought 3 of them brand new.
Not till over 20 yrs later I switched exclusively to Husqvarna. Funny thing is I bought one of the very first Stihl 066s in the early 1990s and now I'm running a new 395XP Husky which is actually an older design [394XP] then the 066. Far more advanced saw over the 066.

The 066 actually is a couple of years older than the 394xp, but not on all markets. It came out in 1988 in Europe.   ;)

Depending in what part of North America you were in the Stihl 066 came out in 1991-92. The Husqvarna 394XP..... 1990-91
The 066 did not come out in 1988 in Europe, because I worked for Stihl Canada as a tech rep in 1989 and even met Hans Peter Stihl personally at the time. There was no mention of a 066 in 1989, only the 064 was on all the tech sheets. In 1990 the 064 "Brain" was available with the red light technology which a year later in 1991 became the larger cc 066 red light.
Come on Niko you should know that. :o

Well, according to two different Stihl documents I got from a reliable Stihl source, the 066 came out in 1988 (in Germany, not in the US or Canada). He informed me that the documents were from "deep into the Stihl system". :)
