COOL! When you clean it up in the spring, make sure all the electrical components have a good ground. Sometimes I have noted that if not grounded well the diode in the HT coil will bite the dust! At least that is what I think is going on.

I've never seen the 2 piece ignition totally fail and not spark. they usually will miss and stumble when running. most times at the high rpm's

I work on lots of the saws that use the two piece ignition system. I personally own 4 or 5 of them and my BIL owns three. I have seen it happen both ways, but if you have NO spark it is usually the HT coil.

I have worked on a few 2 piece ignitions not a lot, but the last one I worked on I found the trigger bad.

Prettly close to a Husqvarna 61, IIRC 48mm bore 34mm stroke.

The 61 would more accurately be compared to the Jonny 625; both being straight open port jugs. And both occupied the entry level rung on the ladder for this saw family. The 630 is a closed port saw that shared a P&C with the Husky 162SE. Husky next went to the 50mm 266 and Jonsered got the 670. Husky didn't retain a model with the 630 top end because they had the 262 in the line up.

You guys got me curious so I went to the garage and checked.

The saws sparks good no problem.  I pulled the starter cover off and it is 2 piece ignition.
The serial number on the tag, 006974.

Would that be 1990

Actually not - there is one digit too little for a 1990 saw, and the wrong color on the tag as well (it would have been black). If that tag doesn't also say 1983 or 1984 on it as well (I assume it isn't), it most likely is a 1982 saw.

Unfortunately The only numbers left on the tag are what I posted so you are probably correct then.  Well I guess it really is an early saw then.

Actually, everything points at an early one - and when it is, earlier is cooler - sort of!

Well I am going to make sure that this saw is a good runner.   I will put it in the line up with the others and use it for cutting up some fire wood, plus it does add to my collection of Jonsereds.
