McCulloch 10-10 x2
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:58:02 am »
I have two Mcculloch 10-10's for sale. One runs good, the other runs but when you shut it off, it wont restart. (Acts like it is flooding). It is a carb issue because i swapped carbs once and it ran fine with another carb. Automatic oilers dont work on either saw but manual oilers work on both. 10-10's are good firewood saws and they sure sound good! I would like $50 for both + ship.

The price is quite in line .Fact really a tad low .

About the only thing that ever goes wrong with the oilers is the pump piston gets stuck from sitting so long .Usually just a little clean out gets them going again .

I certainly don't need any more as I think I have 5 or six from an old right hand start model up to the last year of production .

The saws are really an icon of a chainsaw .They were made all over the world by the millions .Even though they have no anti vibe and are noisey as the dickens they will still do a days work . For 50 bucks and a little tinkering somebody could land a pair of decent old saws that would certainly fill the ticket as occasional  usage saws .

Thanks for your input Al. I will tear into the oiler i think. I didn't realize it would be a simple fix. They have to be the torqiest 50cc class saw there is. I have played with a 24'' bar, 3\8 chain, buried in hard wood. As well as 20'' bar with .404 chain. ;)

They can be tweeked a tad if you want .By it's very design the 10 series are pullers but that aren't revers  unless you fiddle with them .

The porting is  very different using a triple groove semi open type with staggered transfer design .Some of the larger displacement ten series only used two grooves . The weak link is the bottom exit exhaust which causes the same effect as pushing air down a heating duct with a square corner .It about like hitting a brick wall .

Some designs of the ten series engines used a muffler with a round transition which gives the best performance .I'm thinking it might have been on one of he earlier 10-10 with right hand start .

Really though aside from perhaps some work on the ex port and maybe bumping the timing a tad there isn't really much you can do with them .A little bigger carb perhaps depending on what's already on it .

Now try as I may for years I've only came close to getting a Mac 10 series out cut a Stihl .I've gotten close but haven't got er done yet .--I'm not done though ,never say die . ;)
