Need a 'learner saw'
« on: January 24, 2014, 08:49:52 pm »
That's right....I have a pile of tools, and now I need a saw!

Guess what I need is a saw that I can learn on, something 'easy' like a top-end or maybe a piston/ring replacement...

So let me know what you have....not really ready for a 'needs everything and good luck finding stuff' kind of rebuild.

OK, I got saws like you are looking for! However looking at your signature line it seems that you already own a good assortment of saws. So what class saw would fit your bill?

Everything I have right now(other then the 064) is running better then normal.  Well the 2094 could use some 'sprucing up', but she is still pretty strong for a 'I-use-this-in-real-timber-felling' saw!

I don't really have a 'need another saw' thing going on here, I just need something to practice on before getting to the saw I care about(the 064).  And I guess being able to get my money back out of it after I'm done wouldn't hurt either(it'll keep my wife happy too).

What you got?

Guess I can call this topic closed.....seems I found a Stihl 056 powerhead.  It runs great, has 135-ish compression, and just needs a bar/chain.

But it will get torn down and gone through....so I guess it will be a good enough place to start?!?!?!?!
Guess I'll post some questions as soon as it arrives and I get inside of it!
