« on: March 25, 2014, 12:35:32 am »
Any tricks to keep an eye out for? Never torn one apart. Neither auto of manual oiler is working..
chainsaws are chainsaws but stihl runs through my veins

time to pull the gas tank and get into the manual oiler pump. chances are the check valve is stuck shut. these pull the oil through the manual pump before hitting the auto pump.
also, if the check valves in the auto are stuck shut, it'll do the same thing :)
you'll need new gaskets for both either way.
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

Before getting stuck into it try emptying the oil tank and filling it with kerosene and let it soak It has worked for me being thinner and a degreaser it cuts through a lot of the stuck crud. I had a couple where idiots had run used sump oil through them. If it starts to flow after a few days fire it up and run a couple of tanks of kero through it'   DO NOT USE PETROL FOR THIS JOB

I've had those impulse piston pumps act like they were full of grease and quite frankly as long as they had sat unused that was about what the oil turned into .Usually the kerosine treatment will get it ungreased. I wouldn't get too concerned about the gaskets unless they are torn .

The oil system on the 10-10 series underwent some changes. Some are very easy to access (right under the oil tank cover) and others require significant disassembly. I concur with trying the kerosene trick first. The manual oiler could likely be repaired with an o ring. The auto oiler may need some parts. It's not hard to put $100 labor into a $50 saw, lol.
