Mcculloch PM 605 610
« on: September 01, 2015, 10:46:26 am »
I joined these forums yesterday and thought I would start my membership by saying "HI". I am 61 yrs. young. I have two McColloch saws. They were both bought for personal "firewood" saws. My first is an Eager Beaver, I inherited from my father-in-law. It isn't running at this time. I will start a new thread eventually to cover its issues. The other is a 16" Pro Mac either 605 or 610. I don't have it right here to look at. That also has some minor issues I would like some experienced assistance with.

Welcome to the site.   Promac 605 not a bad saw, just alittle heavy but they cut wood just fine.
I have one by the way.    I have not run it in awhile but it did just fine last time I had it out.

I will be bringing the PRoMac back from the camper this coming weekend. I will start a couple of new threads next week with their "disabilities".

Guy said it just quit running and wouldnt start back up. When it was hot or even when it was cold the next day.
I dumped his mix, put mine in started.  Then checked plug and was some small trimmer plug and was missing alot. So replaced. Put my old school spark checker and then my new spark tester and came back fine.  Put his mix in tested and tuned carb.  Call it good. Like the easy ones trouble shooting.  Now to see if it does it again with heavy use to get it hot and see if it was the coil or was it that plug.   Going with plug myself.

These saws have a tendency to pack chips under the cylinder which blocks of the air flow .Heated up the ignitions often fail until they cool off ..Ran a 610 for years and have three in the shed .Other than heavy for 60 cc's they do okay .This model BTW is all metric .

Thanks for info. I was going to tell them to see if it does it again. I want to see if it is the coil. But what made me think no, was he said wouldnt start next day either. But then again he could have had it flooded by then too.
Time will tell.

I stuck it in the big ash with the bar buried. I was surprised.  Slow going but would do it.
