Confused about Pro Mac 10-10S fuel line part #
« on: April 11, 2014, 07:50:50 pm »
The part number in the IPL shows #215708...which is molded and has a grommet right in the middle according to all pictures I came up with ? The problem is my tank cover has a TINY hole and there is now way that grommet is going to snap in there unless you tell me otherwise ? It has regular yellow in it right now but leaks at the hole and the yellow is still flexible ?

Thanks,
Phillip

Does your fuel tank have an aluminum bushing pressed/glued into the tank divider (that the line passes through)?  If so, your saw likely has had the 'conversion kit' installed on it some time in the past.  The kit consisted of that bushing, some glue/sealant, a length of line, a fuel filter, and another carburetor (with the smaller inlet barb to match the line).  Just replace the line with a fresh piece of matching size (IIRC it is 1/8" ID 3/16" OD).   Would you please post a pic or two of the carb box area in your saw to show the bushing for those folks here that haven't seen one?

You're welcome.  I just happened to be looking in the Mac section shortly after you posted.  I don't think I've seen that kit listed in any IPL's.  If it its, it'll be in an IPL for a late 10-series saw like a 4300 or DE80.  Seen a few of those kits listed (and pictured) on ebay.  If your saw doesn't have the conversion bushing, then it should indeed take the molded line with the 'grommet' section in the middle.

That hole in the tank for said 'grommet section' is around 10mm/.401" IIRC.  There were two molded lines, but both are shaped the same in the middle.  One has a 'bell' shaped section on the tank end that takes a plug of felt as a filter, while the other has a smaller end that takes a 'normal' saw fuel filter.  Now I'd really like to see a pic of the carb box area of your saw.

I've seen where guys have cut the grommet section out of an old fuel line, crammed that back into the tank cover hole, and then ran a smaller line (or a length of copper or aluminum tubing) through that grommet section.

That looks like 3/16x5/16" line...............that is a sloppy fit in the hole.  No wonder it's leaking.  Take the line out and measure the hole.  If it's around 10mm/.4", then the hole takes the standard molded line.

These are the two styles of molded lines.  You'll notice that the 'grommet' section in the middle is only slightly larger in diameter than the OD of the end that fits over the carb inlet barb.

The entry hole has a bevel molded into the very beginning to aid intial feeding the hose thru....the line does fit tight but I have discovered that it developed or had a pinhole right where it goes thru the body, so it takes plain fuel line...I had to wait until it was pitch dark and use a led flashlight and a gentle shot of air and just keep watching and drying with air until I could see the trail of the leak...so I'm moving forward with it...I'm sure I'll need something else....

Thanks, Phillip

Ok, got the fuel line replace with the Oregon 3/32 x 3/16 bulk line...worked perfect for that leak ! Yeah, after bench testing the saw, I came back to several minutes later to discover fuel still puddl'ing in the carb cavity !!!  Well, wait til dark and let's see where this sheen of fuel is coming from. The fuel was coming from the throttle shaft so I then knew the metering needle was not sealing off. Removed carb and disassembled. I,ve never worked on an SDC carb so here is what I found ...the last person to clean the carb, which he didn't put a kit in it cause the leaf valves on the diaphragm were shriveled up, but he did not engage the notch of the metering diaphragm into the notch of the hinge ! He just laid it on top....he got the other side of the hinge into the needle...so...it was a half a%% job ! Put a kit and she is good to go ! I love the sound at idle ! Thanks for the help guy's !!!!

Phil
