Connecting rod bolts on McCulloch 125 SP
« on: April 17, 2014, 07:52:14 pm »
The connecting rod bolts on this saw have what looks like I would need a female version of a Torx type socket to not booger up the heads?  Is there such a thing or will a normal socket get er done OK?

Look at a regular hex 12 point socket?

I did find some "splined" sockets on evilbay but I really don't need a whole set.

Saw that one and it would be a good choice if it had a 1/4 size.

It's a special six splined socket .I have both the socket and the wrench .It's the only tool I've seen exactly like that .Flea-bay some time   ago .

A regular 10-32 by 5/8" socket head cap screw will not work either .The head is too wide to clear the stuffer .A low head won't work either, too tall and wide .What would work is a turned down socket head with kind of a flange similar to the splined screw .I've turned down several for people .

After much digging on the net I found an NOS socket !  Va hooo!

My socket arrived and the bolts are out.  Now there must be some trick to getting the crank out??  The bearing in the side cover wants to stay with the side cover which will not let the crank clear the case. Just trying to keep from wrecking anything.
