The mini was made so that aspiring saw mechanics could learn patience .Anybody who can work on a mini mac and keep their cool can work on anything . :D

You can land an entire saw for what those few parts will cost you .

The D44 was the first direct drive saw McCulloch ever built and was the model  that took them to the top of the heap for many years in production and sales of chainsaws . Unless the saw was damaged or stored in a place where it took on moisture it will probabley run .Might need a carb rebuild though . Squirt a little WD-40 ,Kroil or something down the cylinder before you roll it over much .

Run some kerosine through the oiler to flush out all the gunk .If you get it running and want to pretty it up  OSHA safety yellow is a perfect match for Mac yellow .

That thing uses a push rod adjustment of the points .A feature made so you don't have to remove the flywheel to set the points .The setting as per the tech manual is with the thickness of the cellophane from a package of cigarettes .It's under a little box like looking gizmo top front of the flywheel side .

Now that series of saws and most reed valve models have a manual oiler which is simpley a pump piston  which sits in a hole or channel in the  side  of the oil tank .It in conjunction with two ball check valves are what comprise the oiling system .

If the piston is stuck you have to remove the oil tank which is just a couple of bolts once the front cover is removed .Clean all the gunk out and replace the O ring .

The ball checks are just an inlet check which sits inside   under a threaded plug on the pump housing and an outlet check which is next to the oil hole outlet near the bar mounting .These usually free up by just a shot of kerosine providing the pump works .If not I suppose they could be accessed and cleaned but I've never experianced that problem so far .

Unlike a lot of modern saws these things were built during a time when the idea was to make them easily rebuildable and maintainable .Quite frankly they were built to nearly run forever and thusly for all intents they have .

thanks for the info. my grandpa took care of it the entire time he was alive. had bought it new in about 53 0r 4. i have even ran it a few times when i was younger. it doesn't have the draw dogs on the bar, but, for as sharp as he kept it,you didn't need them. again, thanks for the info.
