eager beaver parts
« on: August 25, 2013, 01:51:17 pm »
Hey fellas, I just  got a freebie eager beaver, ( model 600016R ) I need a complete starter, air filter and cover . This saw is filthy, so I didn't have much hope for it. I know a lot of folks can't stand these saws, but I want to tinker with it anyway.  I took muffler off and bore and piston looks great.  My main question is are the mac 110, 120 ,130 and so on all the same saw and do parts interchange with the eager beaver? I read this model was made from  Jan/77 to Feb/83. I've got it partially apart and it appears to have manual oiler only. Is it possible to put auto oiler on it?  This saw does appear to be a PITA  to work on tho.  I appreciate any input. I know I'll probably get a few suggestions to throw that POS as far away as possible, right   brokenbudget  ?      LOL.      Thanks fellas,   Chris

the basic mini mac chassis (mm110 etc.) was built from around 1976 all the way up to 1991-92. the eager beaver name was around since 1987-88.
most all parts will interchange, save for a couple internal engine bits. depending on model, the piston-cylinder will be a different size. and depending on when the saw was built, the crank can be slightly different. the early ones had a smaller keyway cut for the flywheel, and a smaller thread diameter for the clutch. it still can be used, but you need the older flywheel and clutch.--one small note: you can use the newer flywheel with the larger keyway in it on the older crank with the smaller keyway in it to add some timing if so you desire for some extra oomph.
if there is any side to side crank play, it is not worth putting any time into. the crank slops to one side and the other resulting in a airleak-no airleak problem that you wont be able to tune out. they will cut fine, but you wont get it to idle properly. these little saws just were not on the top of the list for machining quality. and quite honestly, there were far better stronger similar saws out at the time. even the carbs on these were poorly machined. so poorly, mcculloch was quite embarrassed about it. that is why zama was called in to fix the problem. after almost 16-17 years ::) . this gives you a slight idea of how mcculloch felt about there customers....i can go on about that, but thats for another day.
the airfilter is still available through stens, about $5bux or so. but if you want i can set you up on some used parts.
pull starter, airfilter and cover will be more expensive to ship than the parts cost.

and now for my 2 cents on these ;)
throw that pos in the trash and spend your time on something worthwhile. like a staring contest with a portrate :)

brokenbudget, thanks for the reply. This EB  has an UL sticker on the clutch cover from 1979, can't believe it is still points and condenser. It has a great spark also. It has a Zama carb, very clean inside but diaphragms are hard. I read your post about  the McCulloch  parts you got recently. When you figure out what you have, could you PM me.   I need a complete starter, air filter and cover, Zama carb kit, 14" bar and chain, fuel filter, muffler, bar wrench.    Money is tight at the moment, so there is no rush.

I thought you would get a chuckle about someone wanting to get one of these running. I read somewhere I might get a reward  or sainthood if I could  get one running correctly.  Thanks again,  Chris

to get it running properly everything revolves around the crank not having any side to side slop. if there is any, don't bother with it. find another one to play with. you can sort of hide the issue by placing the bearings in a little farther to keep the crank 'centered', but it's a temporary fix.
as for the carb kit; i have them for the walbro, so far as i can find. but if i remember correctly, they both use the same rubber bits. the needle and lever are different.
as for the fuel filters; i'll see what i have. haven't come across them yet but i'm sure i have them. they can be saved with a soak in kerosene if they're dried out. they rarely need changing due to being plugged with dirt. they are huge compared to any other filter in a small saw. a real pain to properly change, we used to just throw a new tank in if it was suspect. it isn't something i recommend touching.
i have a couple good used complete pull starters. one yellow, one black. same for the carb covers. i don't think there is any new ones here. i also don't have any new airfilters, but i do have a couple good used ones close to new. they're also still available new from stens for about 5 bux.

Brokenbudget, I'm thinking black starter and yellow air filter cover. What do you need for those and shipping? Thanks, Chris
Chris
