Is my fuel filter clogged
« on: October 21, 2012, 01:45:21 pm »
Do you guys know how fast a fuel tank should drain when pulled off the saw.  I pulled it and filled it half way and only getting about 1 drop every 2 seconds out of the spout.

The saw only runs with fuel poured down the carb so I'm guessing its clogged somewhere, either at the filter or in carb connection. I just don't know what a new filter should look like because I never had a new one, this one looks tough and hard.

I never tried that method.? What i do is blow through the filter and then i can feel weather its clogged or not. Sounds like you need to change the filter and lines anyhow.

I never changed it and bought it used.  I would not want to blow through this thing. Its just a rectangle piece of dense sponge that is squeezed in the hole of the mini mac fuel tank spout.  I guess all I want to know is what should happen when I fill it , should it drain more than the 2 drops I'm getting now. I think I had this setup on a lawnmower once and it drain pretty fast

I've never tried the method you are trying to know what they are suppose to do. Never even heard of that way till now.

I actually just breath through a filter to see if easy or strained to flow. When in doubt I replace.

it should practicly pour out :) sounds like you need to find a new filter element. might as well get a piece of fuel line and a carb kit. don't forget to replace the o-ring on the end that seats into the bottom of the tank.

The one on ebay is the correct one.

Blowing in the can barely gets a few drops. I think the thing is toast from sitting for too long.  I'm not buying one and I think I'll just put in a generic.

Update on the situation of the mini 140. The problem turned out to be the filter and the carb. I removed the filter completely and it still wasn't starting, the carb was sticky inside and clogged with gunk. Bought a kit for $6.95 and cleaned it all out and it runs pretty good now.
