Mcculloch 3-10
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:13:48 pm »
Does anyone know the carb settings for a mcculloch 3-10? I think the H needle might be 1 3/4 full turn out but not sure. Ideas?

Start them both at about a turn and a half .FWIW there is no standard because every one is slightly different .

If it's running right at 1-3/4 turns out on the H side then I'd be concerned about an air leak.  Crank seals are getting OLD on these saws.  If they fail, the saw can lean out and roach the P/C.

My SXL-925W just leaned out when cutting the other day and buggered up the piston (and maybe the cylinder).  Had it adjusted and running right.  Was tuned right and four stroking at WOT unloaded.  It leaned out and got weird as I was finishing the last long bucking cut in a big DF log at the end of the day.

Spark plug came out ashen white (not good), and there's aluminum transfer from the piston visible through the exhaust port.  Hopefully I can get it squared away with a cylinder cleanup, a new piston/rings, and seals/gaskets.  Compression is still at 130PSI...

I had never had a seal go bad on a 10 series McCulloch until maybe two years ago .Then two at the same time and one was the last of the 10-10's ever made which looks almost brand new .Another good news those seals are also inexpensive .

Thanks a bunch! It seems to be idling and running good now...need to be tested under load now.
