I'm sure you could sleeve one and if done correctly it will have the same power .

I resleeved a 125 some time back with cast iron but it took me days not just hours .Had it not been a relatively rare model I'd not have spent the time .

Keep in mind on buying a cylinder or piston these things had three different bore grades a-b-c .You can't miss match them else you'll either have a sloppy fit or else you'll hang it up trying to stuff a grade c piston in a grade a bore etc .

Rambling on  one of McCullochs bright ideas which wasn't all that bright was using needle bearings on the out sides of the piston .If they fail which they do it will grenade the piston and more often than not "needle"the  block .Something to watch for on used parts .

Now just my opinion .You'd be better off biding your time until eventually one will come up with a bad ignition ,bad oiler or something rather than a pile of parts somebody had lying around in a 5 gallon bucket .Often you can buy the whole saw with a rough exterior but totally intact instead of buying basically a pig in a poke with a pile of parts for about the same price .You just take the best parts out of two and make one which is exactly what I did on the 805 .

Fact being I only had slightly more in price than what they try to get just for an OEM  piston without even a set of rings and usually a grade b or c .That wouldn't do a person a bit of good unless you had the block to go with it ,just more parts to go in your own 5 gallon bucket .

More ramblings .Some flea bay sellers are preying on the inexperianced especially on the 81 cc McCulloch models .I've seen some sell for upwards of 750 bucks exceeding often the price of a 125 Mac or in fact an 084 Stihl on occasion

It's like all the sudden they have a cult following or something ,magic wow .Now they are decent saws ,have enough power and if kept in a good state of tune are dependable but they certainly at least for my money are not worth that even if they look brand new .Like everything else though I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder . ;)

Thanks for the advice. I will keep looking. Don't even own a saw, although they allow wood cutting on National Forest where I live.

Has anyone had an 80cc Mac cyclinder replated(Nikisil)?  How would they hold up to high rpm's?

It would hold up if they did it right .Problem being two fold .First finding somebody to plate a blind end cylinder and secondly it costs about 400 bucks to get one plated .

Now I've seen dreamers try to get for example 700 plus for an absolute pristene example of a later model 850 or 805 .But with the internet and flea bay being what they are if it ever fetched that much or not one really never knows .

I still maintain the best approach is bide ones time because given enough time usable parts will show up .I think I landed an early model 850 which now the complete engine is residing under the pristene 805 shrouding for around 100 bucks .Found it in about two weeks .---Snipe bid, fast internet connection  fast computer . ;)
