Thanks Dave ol Mcbob  explained to me a long while back they came out originally with the paper gasket but the 1 bolt pumps began to leak oil into the cylinders so they upgraded to the rubber one with a curved metal piece to go at the back to put pressure on the pump and hold it in place.
