MAC 740 melted plastic
« on: September 07, 2014, 08:25:19 am »
We bought a new MAC 740 two years ago. Last time we were using it, the chain stopped turning and we noticed that the guide tip was damaged and the tip wheel stuck. Everything was very hot and after we removed the clutch cover we noticed that something has melted and filled the bar oil holes with plastic. I bought a new guide and tried again. It seems that the oil pump is running but the oil is not getting into the guide.
Anyone had something like that happened?
I bought an Husqvarna 562XP after that but If it is possible I would like to repair the Mcculloch. I just bought 2 guides and 2 sprocket drums and it is a good size saw for small work!

Yes that one. The plastic came between the holes of the Plate-bar #40
Thank you for looking at it!

Or the plastic under the plate-bar as the guide is sitting on it and it became very hot?

Could be. Look for areas of missing plastic that has become brittle and missing yet?

Mcculloch is not for sure a good quality product and not a good image for other Husqvarna products!

You shouldn't compare the new "macs" with the real McCullochs. The original 740 is 6 cubes and 95% metal.
