Chainsaw Repair

Glad to know this Al. Just picked these up and he said the 610 had been setting for 3 years maybe. I love the sound of the old Macs so I'm looking forward to cleaning and hopefully getting this one up and running. Any other cleaning and/or tips specific to this saw? Thanks everyone. My free 310 and 610:



I got the 610 from a guy who used to heat with wood in northern Michigan, said he moved to NY and hadn't run it in decades.



Terrible fuzzy phone pics, sorry about that.  I need to break out my Canon DSLR and get some real pics soon.

I cleaned out the carb and cleaned up the saw in general, and got it running, but it seemed like the diaphragms were stiff, so I ordered a kit.  Just got that, will install it soon.  Bought a 20" chain, looking for a cheap used 20" bar for it now, as the 16" seems small for the size and weight of this saw.

Still haven't checked the function of the oiler, hope I don't have any problems there.  Also, I just pulled the screen off the muffler, and it was pretty clogged, so should run better without it.

The 310 was found in someone's trash long ago, had it in my garage for years, just got it running last week.  Missing the plug for the sharpener-gizmo hole, so instead it works like an automatic knuckle oiler, yuck.

My next task is learning to use my new files for sharpening chains.  YouTube is my friend!

I know  nothing about a 310,I've never even seen one.


That 610 is a relatively  older model  judging by the brake handle and appears to be in good shape .The bucking spikes were add ons .I never saw a new one so equipted .


They originally sold for aprox 230 bucks with a 20" bar,file ,couple goodys thrown in .K-Mart blitzed the market selling them for 169.95 with a 16" bar,no file no goodys .TSC and others sold what Oregon called a "cord cutter package " Two chains,20" bar ,file .Semi chisel ramped anti kick backs .You had to watch them though because some had those long safety gaurds that didn't cut worth a hoot .

The premise was with two sharp chains you could cut a cord of wood which would be about right .They alse erroniously suggested that wearing out two chains called for a new bar which wasn't true at all .The whole package was about 30 bucks .
