Super quiet muffler's?
« on: September 14, 2012, 08:46:37 am »
I have a 10 10 that I would like to quiet down a bunch.  Did anyone ever make a better muffler that would fit these saws?

OK LMAO!!!  Let's assume there is nothing out there.  Now "assuming" it's just a silencer any idea how big it might be to offer some help??  I have a cop friend who has a thing for silencers.  I have fired them and seen them apart so I'm pretty sure noisy things can be made "less" noisy and still function.  My best guess is size is going to be an issue.  Mostly just fishing for now.

From a design criteria the ten series from the 10-10 up to the 850 produced a lot of torgue but the flaw was a bottom exit exhaust .The outbound exhaust has to make an acute 90 degree turn to get out .It works the same way as air conditioning air ducting  ,it's about like hitting a brick wall with the exhaust discharge plus some ten series mufflers had another 90 degrees bend .Couple that with heavy baffles and it's just is not conducive to good exhaust exit design .So as a result they just don't run well with restricted mufflers .

Fact you plug them up like some times happens because of faulty oil pumps on the PM 610 models plugging the screens they cook the pistons .

It would have been difficult to do on a horizontal cylinder but if they had built the 10 series like the mini macs with a side exhaust it most likely would have worked better .

For the most part a mini is not very good but the engine design really is better than the 10 series .Never the less the old 10 series is still plugging away after all these years so in spite of it's flaws has survived the test of time which says a lot .
