« on: February 27, 2012, 01:35:31 pm »
This seems like a interesting Mac in 50.9cc.  3.1ci legal for Chardon Al  ;). Cylinder I looked at in pic was open port and bolt on.

Manufactured in Italian McCulloch factory 84-88

I've never seen one myself .Fact the only Italian made Mac I've ever seen is the Titan 70 I own .

I think McCulloch might have resorted to rethinking the designs of the saws around early 90's perhaps .They were already in a downward nose dive and this was probabley a last ditch and feeble attempt to revive a once flourishing company .

This one has been under my bench for a couple years now.  Interesting design and an even more interesting job to change lines.

Interesting indeed .Those large open transfers are kind of like a Stihl 20T .Larger size of course .

I'd imagine the hemi domed piston is to sweep the top of the cylinder on transfer .

It may be.  The comb chamber is machined as the 57 is.  Build quality is top notch on both this saw and the 57.  Unfortunately, coil issues and the fuel/oil line routing plagued them.

Can you show or tell me more on the 2 issues? Why is the fuel line a  :o :o :o :o and are the coils just faulty and unreliable?

Coils are a known weak point.  Most of the saws I've come across do not have many hours on them with weak/no spark.  May have had a dozen of these saws over the last couple years and two have had functional coils.  As for the lines, they are not as bad as the 57.  You have to either remove the tank or split it away from the case to replace the lines.  Limited space and multiple elbows make it a fun job.

Good runners when all is sorted out though....

There's a couple on flea bay .Some cheap ,some they are very proud of .

I thought about it but I have my mind set on an 026 for a 3 cube cookie cutter if I ever get around to it .

Shucks I know next to nothing about these Italian Macs .I'm not saying I'm an expert on Stihls but do know a little bit or at least enough to be comfortable souping them up .
