In 1962 I was 14 years old and totally fascinated with go karts especially McCulloch engines .

They ran them at such high compression  they could not be started by a rope .What they used was a long shaft Ford starter like used on the Ford y blocks ,272,292,312  and a vee belt to a starter cup on the engine .Portable starter on a cart  with a 12 volt battery .

Some of those engines turned at RPM's nobody would believe but most likely the run time between rebuilds was less than an hour .

As far as the fuel ,I was just a snot nosed kid and all I knew was they ran castor oil .
LOLI was the same way. Dreamed of a twin engine Mac powered kart.
