McCULLOCH KART RACING 1962
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:05:09 am »
Mcbob shared this link with me on the Aussie racesaw site. Talks about mixing fuels, nitro, cold plugs, drilling mac carbs, etc.  Thought it was interesting and thought some of you guys here might want to read.

WS5E Bosch is the colder plug I was using in alky saws or saws that squish was so tight you had to side cut plugs if you used 6 or 7.  ;)

In 1962 I was 14 years old and totally fascinated with go karts especially McCulloch engines .

They ran them at such high compression  they could not be started by a rope .What they used was a long shaft Ford starter like used on the Ford y blocks ,272,292,312  and a vee belt to a starter cup on the engine .Portable starter on a cart  with a 12 volt battery .

Some of those engines turned at RPM's nobody would believe but most likely the run time between rebuilds was less than an hour .

As far as the fuel ,I was just a snot nosed kid and all I knew was they ran castor oil .

I think that's McBob with one of his West Bend 820 powered saws.

The Power Products AH 82 was 134.373925 cc stock. This one was probably bored as the sleeve blew apart at the transfers? See the custom head?

Watch it in You Tube so you can read the details

West Bend 820

Were Go Karts made by Rupp in Mansfield, Ohio?

That PP AH82 had some serious muscle.  Could hear right where it started to let go.  Ran (sick) for a good 30 seconds or so afterwards before shutdown....

LOLI was the same way. Dreamed of a twin engine Mac powered kart.
