I've never seen one but I assume it's a variation of the 10 series .3.5 cu inch or 57 cc .According to Mike Acres site they were only made for two years ,late 70s' .

Without looking it up and if memory serves the very last of the 10-10's were the same displacement .

McCulloch being McCulloch would periodically just change the model numbers on essentually the same model of saw from time to time as they saw fit .

The mac 555 in my pics above could have been bought for $75. Just wasnt worth the hour drive there and hour back to me.

It would have definately been worth 75 bucks to someone that needed an inexpensive firewood cutter .

I still on occasion get out a few of my ten series just to keep them exercised .They'll still get-er-done in grand style .A day here a day there but I wouldn't care to every day while I have better saws to use .

I have a lead on a Pro Mac 555 with a bow on it. The guy wants $125 for it. (It's not advertised). I haven't seen the saw or any pics but he says he's been using it so it apparently runs. Is this something that I should run down to flip or is it going to be worth less than I have in it? It's probably an hour drive but I will be heading that direction for another purpose most likely and maybe could combine trips.

I saw a reference in this thread that it may not be much more than a Mac 10-10A. I just sold a 10-10A for $60 in good running condition, so if it is the same thing, I'll just let it set. Those old saws don't have much market appeal around here. If it doesn't say Stihl on it, they're pretty hard to market. I sell rear handle plastic Poulans for $50, top handle Poulans for $45, etc.

I don't collect saws. I have ones I use and anything else I get is just passing through. I play with them a bit and then sell them and try something else.

It's a $50-$100 saw by itself (unless you get lucky selling on ebay).  The bow is also $50-$100 on feebay.  Not much meat on the bone for you.  Good firewood saw.

For older saws:
Tune the H side so that it 4-strokes (burbles) at WOT unloaded and just cleans up when under load.
When you lift cutting load, the saw should immediately revert to 4-stroking.  Fine tune the transition point for the wood you're cutting.

Just had a nice looking but not running right now, mac 555 come in today.

Weird part coming off top handle into center cylinder cover it seems. Looks like part of handle to me . Will grab some pics later.

Got them both running the plastic mac cat in background needs carb kit, af and other choke linkage parts. The 555 needs a gas cap and idle screw so far. But did get it running.

So what other model gas cap and idle screw work on the mac 555?
