Heiman a Mac collector said the the 555 is basically the Pro Mac 55 with long clutch cover.  http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/6d84f07aeb6a1de288256c2e0075c542?OpenDocument

FWIW some Husqvarna bar mounts will work on the 10 series Macs . For that size displacement I'd say a 20" would be about right ,which is what I have on a  Pro Mac 10-10 S which is the same displacement .

Now the saw.It has plenty of power for firewood cutting .However the difference between its' 57 cc and 70 cc of the 700 model is very noticeable .

D176 is the current mount for these saws.  Fits midsize Echos and Poulans as well as the 10-series Macs.

A large mount Husky bar will fit on these saws, but I'd be very skeptical about it oiling right, at least without modification.  The 10-series saws oil through the adjuster holes on D276 and D176 mount bars.  If trying a D009 or D005 type bar, be SURE to check to see if the oil passage on the bar pad of the saw matches up with the oiler hole on the bar.  Modification may well be necessary...

Kevin that muffler is missing a loovered outlet cover.  Looking in the IPL you can see that there were three muffler types used on that saw.  The one that's on there is by far the loudest of the three.  That muffler is most often seen on the earlier 54cc 10-10A's and such.  They are indeed LOUD.  Both the 'reed type' flat muffler and the 'L shaped' muffler also shown in the IPL are quieter.  Most of the 70cc saws have the 'L' shaped muffler.  The muffler that was on your 805 is a much larger, more complex type with a large spark screen tower.  Those were only used on the later 82cc saws.

The 28" b/c's were mostly put on those smaller 10-series saws for brush and 'bumping knots'.  The 54 and 57cc saws in the series will run a 20" bar very well, even in hardwoods.  The 70cc saws are much stronger (as Al said) and can run a 24" bar in hardwoods no problem (and can run a 28" if you're not too heavy handed with them).  The 82cc 10-series saws are in another league...

Great info and Thanks Aaron.   I was hoping a longer D176 would work if someone wanted to try it with one. Right now  just the original 16"

Again Thanks Al without you sending me parts when you did this wouldnt have been possible to check over.  Thank You.  8)

Al is awesome.  The ultimate "make things WORK" guy.  Not many 'old school' machinist/problem solvers like Al left anymore.   Cylinder in his old Mac roached?  No problem.  He'll resleeve it.    I wish I lived closer to you fellows.

I'm not certain of what they are called but Mac made the mufflers with a sweep type bend for both the 70 and below as well the 82 cc ten series .To me they are the best for performance but they are also ear drum breakers .
They are so loud you need muffs because plugs won't get it done .

I have a sweep muffler on the 805/850 and it has no problem handling a 32" in oak buried ,skip chain .
I'd say with confidence the old gal could pull a 36".
