The ProMac 105 is a non-AV saw (while the SuperPro 105 has AV).  It's basically the final version of the 795 and 795L (which were earlier non-AV direct drive 103cc saws that look like a 797).  Mac didn't sell many PM105's here in the US.  Don't know about the Aus. market.

The PM105 was somewhat of an oddball mix of some of the features of the AV saws, and some of the features of the older non AV saws.  The PM105 and SP105 both used the same engine assembly (89265).  Just a totally different saw built around it in each case.

The PM105 had a LH starter (like the 125's, the SP105, and the 795L) instead of the original 795's RH starter.

Also had a chromed bore (like the SP105 and the SP125C) while the 795 and 795L had steel liners.

Also had what we now consider to be a 'normal' decomp valve (as did the SP125 and SP105).  Button type self closing valve.  The 795 and 795L (and the CP125 and 797) had a manually closed valve.

The PM105 and SP105 both also had a 'regular' piston and conrod style using wristpin clips to retain the pin (and loose roller bearings in the little end of the rod)...........while the 795 used a pin that was press-fit into the rod (with the little end bearings pressed into the piston bosses).

The last of the 895 series gear drives (895C) also had the same 89265 engine as the PM105 and SP105.  Same chromed bore, and same style of decomp.  Same piston and conrod.  Again, a very different saw built around that same engine.  Earlier 895s had the same engine as a 795.

The PM105 and 895C both had fixed H jet Tillotson HL carburetors, while the SP105 had a Tillotson HS or Walbro SDC 'cube' type carb.

Very well explained, these old saws must still be popular in the states.

Well as you proved in 2008 they can be still competitive out here in Australia and they do come in bigger and badder versions I wonder if the 084 and 3120's would really rule out here if the Mac's were back

In 2008 a $70-00 SP125C doorstopper beat them in your hands Neil

I just wonder if the latest and greatest for the boys can handle those old Mac's ??

Or yeah Neil is on the left

First one I ever seen was got from a local scrap yard I just got the saw back complete and in running order only really needed a starter assy and fan housing

Again thanks for explaining Eccentric, by all the Yankee pics of these old saws posted regularly its obvious they are still hugely popular, they are basically forgotten here in Oz.

No response to the above posts, this thread has nothing to do with the above.

The big McCullochs were once very popular here on the west coast of the US and Canada.  Still many saws and parts hulks around.  The PM105 was a late design, and doesn't appear to have been sold much.  I've only seen IPL's and a couple pics like that one Bob posted.  The SP105 wasn't terribly popular either.  Only seen one in person (and pics of 1/2 dozen or so more on the net).  The CP125, SP125, SP125C, and the older 740/790/795/797 saws were very popular out here for the big wood.  Seen many of them.
