I'm also guessing RTV shouldn't be in that port?

Mac used silastic as the jointing compound on that series you have to be careful not to overdo it ......... maybe just new diaphragm will get you out of trouble

It was that port, its all better now. All I had on hand was permatex ultra copper, its sealed under worse conditions, seems fine so far. Made sure both surfaces were perfectly flat, skimmed a thin layer on each half, then put something up the discharge port to make sure the same thing didn't happen. Manual and auto are working now. Overall very impressed with the way this saw is built. Very few bolts and screws hold it together, yet its very solid. It'd probably a pound lighter now from all the crap I cleaned out of it.
