Lot of truth in that .As far as larger saws the largest Stihl dealer locally might sell at the most three Ms 660's per year and one 880 every two or three years .They don't even stock the 880 ,must order it .

When Mac was king of the hill it's highly unlikely they sold many 125's locally . Saw's of that size have always been costly and people just could not warrent the price considering the size of the trees .

I do remember as a young man seeing mostly the 250 size in the reed valve and Sp 80 size in the piston port types . Both were 5 cubers .

As far as to the thread  I've never seen an 805 up close and personal .They were among some  of the last larger pro saws Mac ever built .

I recall a dealer meeting at Kingscross in Sydney about 35 years ago i can still see Graham Wass head Mac man in Australia at the time telling us the Reed Engine was finished Mac wasn't or couldn't justify to retool again to produce so as he said the rest of the manufacturers could lick the scraps up, the market was finished for big saws of the calibre of the SP125C.

I near broke down and started crying then they were kind enough to say 100cc would be big enough and rolled out the PM1000 a poor excuse for a big saw.

And 15 years later in 1999 Mac was no more

What you might see in a praticular area was all in what was offered .Years ago it was McCulloch and Homelite .

Now of days with the exception of box type stores like Lowes ,Home Depot and TSC ,Stihl is the only one in the top end market .

First report ,here goes . If you look at the second picture right above the choke and oiler you see two mismatched screws. These hold the back AV mounts .

Whoever had this thing before Kevin assembled them incorrectly pinching off both the oiler button and the choke . In addition the boot on these things is held  in place with two screws going down though the air box each side the carb .Both missing,it was sucking air ,no fuel at all .

That's the problem .Too damned cold in the garage plus I want to get some pics of this thing during the repairs or rather resurrection . I'll peel the whole top off ,hard to say what else they screwed up .l' ll get on next week after it warms up a tad bit .

There ya go Mc Robert ,old Al still has teeth, took me about 5 minutes to figure all that out  . ;D

I wondered about that boot being like that when I pulled the carb off to look down in it.  Cool I hope she fires up easily for you next time around with the quick fix.
I noticed the one shiney nut on the rear and figured it was replaced, no idea what went to what so I left everything  alone.

I know she is in good hands, enjoy it Al.

I would well imagine after it runs a little bit the comp will come back up .

My Sp81 was a little low as was the 700 in the shed from sitting a long time .After they got limbered back up they would snap the old fingers if you didn't use the decomp .Ouch !

Well things happen. The good news is it's one of the finest examples of  pristene classic Mac I've ever seen .Now the rest of the story .

Evidently early on the thing quit running so who ever had it must have peeled it apart .The thing had pulled the chrome .I don't know if it was straight gassed or just lousey chrome ,who knows .It must have been apart for a while and someone couldn't  figure how to get it back together so they stuck the top back on it and pedaled it ,likely as a trade in .

There was no way to tell looking through the intake because the chrome let loose on the intake side .It didn't show any burning on the exhaust side .

Now here's the deal ,while some might be detered remember I'm a collector and stuff like this happens all the time .It's just part of the game .Given enough time I'll find the cylinder and piston from another 5 cube piston port Mac for little of nothing and get it going again .I think maybe I had 65 bucks in the Sp 81 I have ,big deal . Pictures as soon as I locate the fire wire for my camera . :)

Pictures .Towards the end with the decomp shows the improper installation of the tank brackets an the impulse hose not hooked up hanging out the side which was tucked under the cover. To get the tank off these things it's one 1/4" bolt in the back and one accesssable by removing the oil tank cover .Plus the boot bolts of course and it lifts right off .Before though the handles must be taken off .
