Pulling up an old thread ,a comment .Since all this changing engine etc I acquired a 32" Windsor bar 10 series mount .Yesterday was actually the first I had a chance to test ye olde Mac against something else .

Much to my surprise it actually pulled that 32" better than a Husqvarna 281 I had with a 24" .I would never have believed it until I saw and in fact did it myself .

Now I knew the old yellow saw had some azz I just didn't think it had quite that much because that Huskey is no slouch .

Al, I've been reading this site from time to time but never contributed.  Kevin sent me the link to this thread, as I have a PM800 sitting on a bench right now waiting for a piston to arrive.  There's a lot of very good info here!  Thanks!

Speaking of 800 which are also rather rare .This past Saturday at a GTG I saw an 800 that was just as pristene as my 805 .

The problem with repistoning these damned things is they made 3 different bore grades of pistons .They seem to have a lot of bore grade 2 but not so many of bore grade 1 . Now you might get by with a grade 2 in a 1 bore but I've never tried it .

It was just a fact that long ago they could not hold tolerences on bore sizes but even in the automotive  biz they couldn't  either .I know ,I lived through it .Today they can cut stuff to a couple micron accuracy which is 1/1000 of a millimeter .That's close . ;)

Greetings, Al!  Was that 800 owned by Jim (the host)?  I saw a pic of a few Macs on a trailer and wondered whose they were.

I normally frequent that OTHER saw site ... The McHeads concur that there are many 'B' pistons/cylinders, but the 'A' and 'C' variants are few and far between.

I've got an NOS 'A' P/C waiting to go into my second SP-81.  Both of my SP-81's have unmarked 'B' cyliners.  The PM-850 that I'm putting new rings in has an 'A' P/C.

Weren't you trying to get that 850 done before this past weekend?
