I was mistaken .I thought an Sp -81 cylinder would work but no dice .

The 81 uses a standard 10 series points type coil where as the 805 uses a solid state like the 700's and Pm 610's .The mounting is entirely different .

It would have been a grand plan if it would have worked though .Back to option one, cast iron sleeve . :)

I did however in my reading discover all the 80 cc piston ports used the same middle bore grade  sized piston as for the Sp-81's so at least if I can't save the piston I can probabley find one to fit .--never say die --- ;D

OK Al so what Macs do I look for now? Ones with no points were?

So the piston from the SP81 kit will work though?

Well according to the way I see it now it looks like Double Eagle 80,PM 800.Pm 805 or Pm 850 .Those four show the electronic ignition and the large muffler like the 805 .The piston is number # 92519 .

I read that one of the plating company's does blind cylinders.  I know for the race cylinders with no head were $189 for nicksel.  Your sleeve idea might be cheaper if a used cylinder cant be found.

I checked it out years ago when I did the 125 Mac  and the sleeve was cheaper .The blank 12 inch piece of grade 50 gray cast is about 35 bucks and I can make two sleeves out of it . I can't count my time though because it will be about 10 hours more or less .

It isn't just the mounting for the ignition coil but also the muffler .

The SP 81 uses a muffler about like a 10-10 .This 805 has a larger volume deal that mounts under the engine and I don't think provisions are made to drill and tap out holes in the block to mount it .

The larger volume would kind of act like a pressure can but the shape is wrong .Regardless of that , having  larger volume it would most likely have less resistance to exhaust flow than the 10-10 style or at least that's my take on it .

Back to this thing .I found an 850 cylinder on flea bay but wanted to tear this thing down to see if the piston was okay before I ordered it . As luck would have it ,it was . If the guy ships it out promptly I should have this thing going in a week or so .

I took a shot of the cylinder to show the exhaust .I've never seen anything exactly like this .It has a little raised portion dead center that would in effect almost act like an exhaust boost port .The intake had a mirror image and was extremely wide across the cylinder .

I've had a lot 10 series saws apart and never saw one ported like this .

Very cool Al.   That piston dont look hurt at all or was this after you cleaned it up?

Appears those rings are pretty thin too.

You know you just got to let me run it when she's all done.  ;D

Is this the 850 cylinder you bought? Cool pics of it to share also.

That's the one .I'll have to reroute the decomp out the side and plug the cylinder end off but that's no big deal .

All I did to the piston was shine it up with a 3M greenie .I had to clean out the ring lands because it did exactly what I said it would .The tool steel rings plowed the chrome off just as slick as a broach knife and never hurt the rings at all .If they had been cast iron it would likely have broken them .
