I got the cylinder but of course because it's a McCulloch it will need some alterations .Early on they were the same but hey got creative towards  the last hurrah .I almost think at times the engineering staff at Mac was caught up in the acid wars of the the late 60's the way they did things . I'll get er done, I always do .

Al,
Would you be so kind as to take another pic of the inside of that cylinder?  I cant see the ports that your mentioning as theyre too dark for me to see.

Thank you

Click on the picture which will open it up larger .The left side shows the exhaust port which has a little channal cut right in the middle top of it . Interestingly this 850 cylinder does not have exactly the same thing.

It lives ,sort of .I got it back together but because the cylinders are different I had to do some alterations to make it work .

For one the mounting for the coil on the 850 cylinder set it out too far from the flywheel magnets .A little grinding was neccessary ,it worked .A few other incidentals, not that big of a deal .I will say this though of all the ten series I've worked on this one because of the anti vib mounts took me a long time to get back together .I worked on this damned thing about three hours  today and normally  it's about a half hour job .

The two cylinders are shown in the pic,805 right,850 left .The 850 I opened up a little bit wider than stock and polished it out much better than the pic shows, that was just the rough in .

The carb is screwed up .Takes a prime to get started then if you let it idle down it floods .Carb kit in order ,next week .

I'm anxious to hear how she runs. I have always wanted that series of saw.

Got-er-done .Rebuilt the carb a half hour ago and took it for a test run in bone dry oak .Cut just fine . I try to keep an oak log around just to test the saws .I figured if it will cut that stuff it can handle anything .One more thing to get which is the carb "boot "type sealing thing .Randy Duncan listed a bunch of them .

So how did she feel in the cut with the full comp chain and 24" in that oak?

It did okay . Like I've said though these things don't have a grunt of say a 281 Huskey but they have enough .I'm going to try it out with a 32" some time .

You know they made up to like 42" bars for these things although I doubt many used them and I'm certain not in the hardwoods . That's asking a lot out of 5 cubic inchs no matter who made it .Too much, that big is 125 CC stuff .
