My dad bought one of these new back in 70's and still has it.  It vapor locks once it gets hot from running. Lets just say it isnt my fav to use. I gave him my ole poulan 2000 I bought new in 94 later on to replace it.

I remember that felt weird looking filter in the tank. Maybe IPL above will help. IMO run new line and change filter.  Also make sure when rbuilt carb you got the order right putting gaskets and diaphragms back in.
