Ford tractor
« on: May 23, 2015, 10:11:25 am »
Well I was going to get a backhoe but could not find one within my budget that was not more than 300 miles away.
So last week I bought a 1972 ford 2000.    It came with a loader, a scraper. and post hole digger.  It needs alittle work but I like tinkering.   I figure I can do most anything I want with it and it only cost about half of my budget.
The other thing I like is I can haul this on my car trailer and there was no way of doing that with a backhoe.
I will get some pics later.

I used a 8N a lot while in college to mow grass. Then as a young adult I used a 3500 putting in yards. The very nice 3500 was a lot more tractor than a 8N. The 8N was 100% better than either a Cub or A in mowing grass. Worked on a 50's era MF and while it was different than a 8N it had a lot of good mechanical aspects. It was more tractor than a 8N except the electric part of the MF (Lucas) was terrible.

I know nothing about them. But looks like a nice tractor.

I could have bought something bigger but did not think I would need it.   I thought since I liked old cars and saws that an old tractor would fit right in.   I had some big mounds of dirt left over from construction and I have already started on spreading it out.   The tractor works great so far.    It is the 3 cylinder gas engine.

It is the 3 cylinder gas engine.

I was wondering which one you had when I was reading that 2000 specs page.
The four-cylinder Ford 2000 tractor was very similar to the 601 Workmaster series of Ford tractors. It is entirely different than the later three-cylinder 2000 which replaced it.

This one Roger?  http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/005/1/5/5150-ford-2000.html

Although it carries the 2000 name as its predecessor did, the three-cylinder Ford 2000 tractor is an entirely different machine than the earlier (four-cylinder) model.

Yes it is the one that was manufactured between 1965 and 1975.   The one I have I dated from the model, production code and serial number.  It came out to June 1972 day shift and made in USA.   The loader on it is also made by ford.  It has the 8 speed stick and live PTO with 3 point hitch.   The scraper and post hole digger I bought brand new to fit this.   If I think I need a mower attachment I will get one but my craftsman riding mower does just fine.

Dad later bought a MF 235 that he still has. The barn was made from rough sawn oak that the 235 is in.

Great pictures there Kevin.

That is one thing I need to do.   That is to get some kind of shelter for some of the equipment I now have.
