tecumseh (snowblower) electric starter wiring questions
« on: December 19, 2016, 04:42:14 pm »
electric AC starter stopped spinning.

while splitting the starter case apart, the 4 brushes and springs went for a ride all over the work bench.   now have no idea what slots the two pairs of brushes need to go into.

what i have tried so far (after cleaning off the copper commutator):
-put one of the pairs in slots 1 and 3. other pair in 2 and 4.  put it back together, nothing doing.
-then took it apart again, and switched the black and white AC wires around to the opposite terminals.....leaving the brush wiring the same as above.  put it back together again, still a no go.

any ideas?

starter does not look burned.  looks good inside.  this thing is a royal PITA to keep putting back together.

will put up a couple of photos in a bit.

I think there is some kind of capacitor necessary to get an electric motor started?  In a Tecumseh starter I have no idea where it would be, but thought I should mention it.

...no luck with the starter.  i have not got into it since last week because of other things breaking.  2 rear ball joints in my car, and then the snowblower.

do not know if i either broke the gearbox on my auger, or spun the bolts of the auger pulley.  was shoveling some good snowfalls into the past weekend and been too shot to do much of anything of late.
