I think I read that the Funk brothers offered a kit to swap over to the ford flathead 8, gave more power in the field and was cheaper than a bigger tractor.

I used to have an 8N and a 9N, very popular tractor at one time, I didn't like niether one, I bought a 5050 Allis, much better

It might sound good but with reservations .I know of one conversion where they used an Opal 4 cylinder to replace the Ford tractor engine which was around 70 HP .Keep in mind the Ford 4 banger was around 24-25 HP .It had a tendency to break axles .With a Ford flathead V8 were talking about 90-100 HP .They wouldn't pull any more they just could do it faster .
It's kind of like a small block Chevy or a Ford 302 in a CJ5 Jeep .It won't go any faster and it would break axles also .They would climb the hills in a higher gear but they drank about 3 times the gasoline of the original 65 HP  4 banger .

I have seen pictures of 8n's with the ford flat head v-8 but never a 289 or 302.

I still have a 8n that I use all the time.

That's a great picture. Makes me lonesome for my old Saskatchewan prairie farm with endless sky.

Looks alot like the area where my son took a job up north about 1hr 20mins away.  He is looking for land etc now.

Flat as far as the eye can see.  Least Roger has that mountain range in one direction..

Looks like a old manure spreader hooked up to the Ford.

Good eye.   It is a 1937 John Deere manure spreader.   I use it for something to look at.

Dad had a 8N when we first started cleaning up the land we all bought back in early 90's.   Pic has to be around 96.
