INTERNAL RECOIL PLASTIC CUP AND SPRING PARTNER 5000
« on: December 27, 2015, 04:08:05 pm »
Hi I hope you all had a nice Christmas we did here in Maine. It was 50* here and kids were playing outside in shorts .We had a nice family day my son his wife and 3 children cam over to open gifts and that was great it was very nice I hope you all had something similar as well.
I bought a well used 5000+ from a dealer a while back ( June ?) and took her to the bench today. I basically took the saw down to the point that I could change the recoil side crank seal. I had a new one for the pto side as well but I have no way to get the worm gear off, so for now I will hope she only needed the one I could change.
I had heard the saw run before I bought it but it would not stay running it revved and died and so on. The owner did not want to mess any further with it so today I did the seal. I took the jug off too and looked it all over cleaned the fins and put that all back together as well as Gas Line, Carb Cleaning, gaped the plug and tried her out.

After a few pulls I got it to run I think some tuning and it will be fine but when it was running there was a tic and a snap and I shut it off I could feel stray things going on inside the recoil. I took the recoil off and it had broken 2 pieces of the cup "edges" off where the spring goes.
I was wondering if some other saw uses the same cup / spring assembly? Like a Husky 55 uses the same clutch sort of thing. I may have some spare parts and be just fine but I don't have more than one if I have any so I thought I might try to maybe by 2 or 3 new ones just in case. Jeff

Thanks I was hoping you might see my post, I don't think mine has the loops on it but it does have the small rectangle shape on the outside like mine does. Maybe you just put it in and the " loops" don't interfere with anything?

Thanks I will write this info down and have it if I need it. I will look through my parts and see if I have anything in better shape.

There was 3 bolt and 4 bolt recoil covers. So it may be just a newer update deal. Like I said. Just guessing.
