The Best Penetrate for stuck parts I've ever used
« on: April 22, 2014, 07:18:51 am »
I read about this on another repair forum and I've never had any other product work like this does. Mix equal parts of Transmission fluid and Acetone and put in a wood glue type bottle with an opening tip on it. This type of bottle is fairly air tight and once mixed with the tranny fluid evaporation isn't a problem. It really works great, no more PB Blaster or liquid wrench for me.

Here is some info I dug up in 2011 on testing. Penetrating oils tested   http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/tools/penetrating-oils-tested/

Copy pasted 1st post from thread.

Does this sound right to you guys?

Machinist's Workshop magazine tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts with significant results!

They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the
control being the torque required to remove the nut from a
"scientifically rusted" environment (obviously a BIG nut!).

Penetrating oil ...... Average torque

        None ....................... 516 ft lbs

        WD-40 ................... 238 ft lbs

PB Blaster .............. 214 ft lbs

Liquid Wrench ..... 127 ft lbs

Kano Kroil ............. 106 ft lbs

        ATF-Acetone mix....53 ft lbs

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic
transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better than any
commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinistgroup mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results.

Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about 20%
        of the price.

Another method to try when 'nothing works' is to heat the nut up with a torch to almost red hot, apply Bee's Wax to the threads and base of the nut, let it sit for about 30 min then remove the nut.  If this doesn't work, get a nut cracker or a hacksaw !  A trick I learned from Dugan that had been around and passed it on to us.  We used this method to remove big safety valve nuts that had not been removed for almost 24 years when nothing else worked. BO

        Happy knuckle busting !

Copy and pasted from a email my dad sent me.

would the atf and acetone mix cause any problems if poured into a locked up bike  Only reason she locked up was being put into storage under an old tarp. Motor in question is 1975 XL honda 350 single
