Joe, the only time I have ever seen chrome moly rings in a two stroke are when the cylinder had a spun cast iron liner. (old Husqvarna, Maico and CZ MX race bikes) I do not know for sure but IMHO they would be too hard on the plated cylinders used in our chainsaws.

..... also used moly type in iron liners as well.

was mentioned in another thread, that some OEM cylinders were coated with chrome (homeowner grade?), and some with nikasil (pro grade?).  do the OEM's use different coating for each? ....... or do they just use cast or ductile iron rings for everything?

different ring coatings:  http://www.hastingsmfg.com/ServiceTips/ring_set_composition_recommendat.htm

not reccomended to use chrome on chrome:  http://www.hastingsmfg.com/ServiceTips/piston_rings_in_chrome_cylinders.htm

cast vs. ductile:  http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-ductile-iron-and-vs-cast-iron/

searched some more, this is all i found:

wiseco has coated rings, but can't find a chart listing ring dimensions other than bore size.  too bad, because they make rings 40 mm on up.  their coated rings, must be coated with gold, anyway.

my thought was that rings are relatively inexpensive, some advantages to be had with coated rings over non-coated.
gotta use whats available in the end.
