Chainsaw bar repairing and bow bars too
« on: March 10, 2012, 06:59:34 pm »
Since bar prices seem to be going through the roof  :o here lately.  Maybe this place has a good idea.

Repair your old bar. Also sales new bow bars.

In the 70's used to take my bars to a place in Eugene Oregon that worked on deck saws for sawmills (huge things). They could hammer your rails, weld rails, regrove and straighten your bar (not that I ever bent a bar oops). They would even shorten bars build new mount slots and weld on new roller nose or sproket ends. A reworked bar was not as good as new but close. They didn't charge much, course that was the  70's.

Some guy local that runs a sharpening business on the side in Shelby and has a bar recondition tool too. I have no clue what  they are called but (words bar shop come to mind).

I had him once for a bar and he did a nice job.

It is a Barshop, I have not seen one in a long time. Did a lot of hard nose bars on it, refaced the tips then hammered and squared the rails, but with roller nose bars the machine has pretty much disappeared.

that is where i bought my barshop. i was told by the guy in the photo at the time i bought my grinder that i've got no 3 machine in n.h.
 i already had no 2 !
i was hunting for a nut for the arbor on my machine, with no luck. even after giving the man the serial number of my machine.that's when i learned now many were in my area. all the saftey guards had been removed and the hammer was gone too from my machine i had got locally. so i thought i might as well buy a new one as they are a great grinder and worth every penny.

the guy who sold me mine, after looking up original customer say's to me....."you know where center conway chainsaw is ?"  ;D
i bought it from little ole'lady in glen,n.h. 14 miles from me.

the guy who was running "center conway chainsaw" was a Mc dealer. he now runs husqvarna's... ;)

I built my own bar groove grinder and I do bar repair once in a while.

Here is a video of welding up, receiving and changing the tip on a bar.
