Alcohol, as a fuel, has some interesting properties. One that *doesn't help is the reduced btu content. Which is roughly half of gasoline. Boo.

Interesting to note is the fact that one of the very first Ford automobiles was designed to run on alcohol . However gasoline became cheaper and more available so that ended that .

Oh that's interesting. And probably just as well as gas turns-out to be more suitable.

The ups and downs of the use of forms of alcohol from a historical time line is very interesting .You can Google it and find a lot of articles about the subject .

In my opinion it could be just fine if not for two things .First it would be neccessary to have engines specically designed to use the stuff ,plus distribution .Secondly they have to use some other means of raw materials instead of corn which about as poor a method as I can think of .Makes good whiskey but lousey fuel .

It just does not make sense to me to use cattle feed to make fuel .Sugar beets ,cane ,switch grass would certainly be a better method .I personally think all this hoopla about ethanol is smoke and mirrors .The powers that be know we will pay whatever the traffic will bear .It's all about money and little to do  with the environment or well being of the people .

Say speaking of that damned alkie in the gas I just fixed my riding mower .The thing uses a diaphragm fuel pump which had the parts stiff as a bride grooms ----.

In addition the aluminum in the carb fuel chamber had funky stuff and is deteriating .That gunk plugged all the jets .

Wasn't a big deal just a nuisance .

There are gas stations across the county that sell pure gas. Its mainly sold near bodies of water for marine use. There is a website devoted to finding pure gas retailers. I think it is puregas.com. Still not as good as AvGas since it will probably shellac with age but way better than regular pump gas. Thats the other real good thing about AvGas. It does not stale and when it evaps it leave nothing behind. Its as clean to use a laqure thinner. So your saw can sit on the shelf literally for years and either start right. I have saws that have sat for over a year and with same fuel they run like they were started day before.
