How do you prepare your gaskets?
« on: January 29, 2014, 12:28:49 pm »
OK, I just thought I would get everyone's thoughts on preparing gaskets for installation.
There seems to be several schools of thought on this.

Some folks:
Install gaskets dry
Soak in pre-mix before installation (to soften the gaskets a little)
Coat case and base gaskets with grease before installation
Coat case and base gaskets with Yama-Bond before installation.

I soak intake gaskets in pre-mix and coat case and base gaskets with a little grease because that is what I was taught at Husqvarna years ago. At that time, the thought at HVA was that a better seal was achieved if the gaskets were softened a little prior to installation.

What do you all do and why?

The grease also allows the gaskets to come off clean down the road at later disassembly
