6.5x284, nice round! Did you blow out the shoulder ala PO Ackley? If your bolt face will handle it a 6.5x55 Swedish with the Ackley improved treatment also makes a fine round and a long action is not necessary.

Or if you want to try an 'old' round and stay with 6.5mm try a 256 Newton! Name is mis leading since Newton measured the land diameter not the groove, like the Europeans. Newton also designed the 250/3000 Savage, the first 3000FPS (pun intended Roger) commercially available cartridge to go that fast.
