What is the rifle chambered for?

It's a 6.5x284...1/8 twist so I shoot a 140 Berger or 142 JLK.

Most bolt action rifles have a threaded barrel.   How does this one attach and get the head space correct.

That was just a blank Pac-Nor barrel, it still had to be threaded, chambered, cut to final length and crowned.

Looks to me to be a 'work in progress'. Barrel appears to be an unchambered blank. So Adam, what are you building? Moving on from hot saws to hot rifles?

6.5x284, nice round! Did you blow out the shoulder ala PO Ackley? If your bolt face will handle it a 6.5x55 Swedish with the Ackley improved treatment also makes a fine round and a long action is not necessary.

Or if you want to try an 'old' round and stay with 6.5mm try a 256 Newton! Name is mis leading since Newton measured the land diameter not the groove, like the Europeans. Newton also designed the 250/3000 Savage, the first 3000FPS (pun intended Roger) commercially available cartridge to go that fast.

So have any of you guys done any boost ports on your builds.    I have thought about it and would like to try it on one of my saw builds to see what kind of results I get.

It's already built and was used last year to take a nice whitetail in Nebraska at 400 yards.

No reason to blow out the shoulder since the 284 case is already min taper with a sharp shoulder.

I do have a .243 built that had the Ackley treatment tho...

Finger ports

Depending on the saw they can work real well. I have a couple with fingers and like them. The rest of the jug has to be ported accordingly also.

Take an old jug and practice carving them out.
