Just saw a video C4F posted yesterday on how Mitch put some boost ports in an XT saw. Very interesting!

http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/ported-saws/strato-chainsaw-cylinder-explanation/

I would like to try it but don't have an XT to play around with.

So have any of you guys done any boost ports on your builds.    I have thought about it and would like to try it on one of my saw builds to see what kind of results I get.

External or fingers?

Finger ports

Yes on a couple 288s. They do seem to help them.

I liked ALMOST everything about a good running woods ported saw.

As I have gotten older I DISlike the louder mufflers.

I used to think my dad was crazy not liking my woods ported, finger ported, dual port  7901 in the cut. Now I understand. I am really liking quiet saws in the cuts now days.

Racesaws = a whole different breed of chainsaws.  Whats not to like about the  adrenaline rush of cold start racing.

1st gas or cocktail gas hotsaw I learned on. 084 with finger ports by Dave Nieger

2nd hotsaw was a 166 made to run on 100 alky up north,  but I was able to push  12% Nitro through it.  Extranal boost ports by Marcel Vincent.

3rd that was way over my operating level for cold start racing was this Cliff Helsel 3120.

This was a ported work saw. Dave Nieger put a set of finger ports in my dolmar 7900 makita 7901 back in the day. It made a difference in that saw back then.

Got a updated set of black covers prefilter in AF cover toward end.

I love build and running race saws but after almost 30 years of listening to saws all day long I'll take a nice quiet work Saw! Lol!!

Those are pretty neat saws Kevin.

Loud saws do not bother me because I am always wearing ear muffs anyways.   I bought a bunch of the cheapys from harbor freight and always have a pair around that way.

One other thing I do on all my saws modified or not is to run a spark arrestor.   I cut in national forest and I don't want to worry about which saws have a screen in them and which do not.    Not exactly a performance enhancer.
